Highlights

La Grande Chapelle at the 2025 edition of the Festival of Early Music of Úbeda and Baeza (FeMAUB)

FeMAUB has adopted the theme ‘Love’ for its 2025 edition, taking advantage of the commemoration of the 350th anniversary of the canonisation of St John of the Cross (1675–2025) and inviting audiences to explore the many dimensions of love in early music. La Grande Chapelle contributes to this edition with a performance of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina's Cantos de amor sagrado: Canticum Canticorum (5vv) on 6 December in the San Francisco de Baeza auditorium.

Valuable album with music by Sebastián Durón

Pizzicato, 14/1/2025 "Duron’s works are performed by the Spanish ensemble La Grande Chapelle, conducted by Albert Recasens. Both the seven instrumentalists and the four vocal soloists offer first-rate and highly committed playing throughout, with the wonderful organ playing of Jorge Lopez-Escribano standing out in particular. Anyone interested in early music and especially sacred works will be very happy with this album."

Recasens celebrates in Madrid the musical patronage of the Grand Duke of Osuna

Scherzo Magazine, 11/9/24 "It was, in short, a wide and varied panoply of the music that was usually performed in the court circles of viceregal Naples in the first quarter of the 16th century. A complete novelty, we insist, in these parts. And for its interpretation Recasens deployed a spectacular ensemble. No less than twenty-one instrumental performers - among them, names of international resonance - and ten vocals. And there was, naturally, a long list of instruments, some very unusual: bombarda, shawm, practically the entire families of recorders, basses, and bow vihuelas, in addition to the usual violins and other instruments associated with the continuo. There were, of course, dazzling and grandiose moments when the entire group intervened..."

This is what the splendor of the Golden Age sounded like

Nuestro Tiempo Magazine, 709, March-May 2021
La Grande Chapelle by Albert Recasens recovers the sound of Spanish compositions from the 16th and 17th centuries.
